Server+ is worth it if you work with physical or virtual servers, in data centres or hybrid environments. It is vendor-neutral and covers server hardware, storage, virtualisation, security, troubleshooting and disaster recovery, making it relevant to Systems Administrator, Server Administrator and Data Centre Technician roles.
The current Server+ exam is SK0-005. It has up to 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions, a 90-minute time limit and a passing score of 750 on a 100–900 scale, and is available at Pearson VUE test centres or online.
A+ is not mandatory, but it is recommended. CompTIA suggests A+ certification or equivalent knowledge plus around two years of hands-on experience in a server environment. Basic computer skills and some practical IT experience will help you get the most from the course.
Yes. Since 1 October 2025, Server+ is part of CompTIA's Continuing Education programme and is no longer a 'good for life' certification. Like other CompTIA certifications, it now needs to be kept active through CE renewals.
