About the ISO 22000 Lead Implementer

The ISO 22000 Lead Implementer programme gives you the skills to establish, run and continually improve a food safety management system (FSMS) based on ISO 22000. Delivered fully self-paced and online, it brings together HACCP principles and prerequisite programmes (PRPs) within a full management system that spans the food chain.

You’ll learn to conduct hazard analysis, establish control measures and critical control points, manage traceability and emergencies, and apply the PDCA cycle at both the management-system and operational levels — and to prepare the organisation for certification.

Frequently Asked Questions

A PECB credential proving you can plan, implement and manage a food safety management system (FSMS) that conforms to ISO 22000.

Managers, consultants and professionals responsible for setting up or running a food safety management system in their organisation. A basic understanding of ISO 22000 helps but isn't required.

The exam is an essay-type, open-book paper of roughly 3 hours. You need the passing score set by PECB (generally around 70%). After passing you receive a 'Certificate of Exam Success', and the full certification is issued once you also meet PECB's professional-experience requirements.

The Lead Implementer learns to build, deploy and manage the food safety management system (FSMS), while the Lead Auditor learns to independently audit one against ISO 22000. Implementers work on the 'build' side; auditors on the 'assess' side. Many professionals earn both over time.

PECB certifications are valid for three years. You keep yours active by earning Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits and paying the annual maintenance fee.
