Frequently Asked Questions
A PECB credential proving you can plan, implement and manage an environmental management system (EMS) that conforms to ISO 14001.
Managers, consultants and professionals responsible for setting up or running an environmental management system in their organisation. A basic understanding of ISO 14001 helps but isn't required.
The exam is an essay-type, open-book paper of roughly 3 hours. You need the passing score set by PECB (generally around 70%). After passing you receive a 'Certificate of Exam Success', and the full certification is issued once you also meet PECB's professional-experience requirements.
The Lead Implementer learns to build, deploy and manage the environmental management system (EMS), while the Lead Auditor learns to independently audit one against ISO 14001. Implementers work on the 'build' side; auditors on the 'assess' side. Many professionals earn both over time.
PECB certifications are valid for three years. You keep yours active by earning Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits and paying the annual maintenance fee.
